Residence in Garipa
Residential

A private residence in Garipa, Heraklion, designed around the balance between contemporary Mediterranean living, natural materiality and the quiet articulation of outdoor space.
Year: 2025
Location: Garipa, Heraklion
Area: 162 m²
Status: Project
The residence is developed across two levels, with a 90 m² ground floor and a 72 m² upper floor. The architectural composition is based on clean white volumes, stone surfaces and timber elements, creating a contemporary domestic environment that remains connected to the material memory of Cretan architecture.
The design organizes daily life around a sequence of exterior and semi-exterior spaces. Courtyards, balconies, shaded areas and planted edges become part of the living experience, allowing the house to open gradually towards light, air and privacy. Rather than treating the exterior as a secondary condition, the project uses it as an extension of the interior.

Natural stone is used as a grounding element, giving weight and texture to the composition. White rendered surfaces define the main volumes, while timber details soften the architectural language and introduce warmth. This contrast between mineral, smooth and tactile materials gives the residence a calm but distinct identity.

The facade is shaped through controlled openings, recessed balconies and vertical shading elements. These interventions regulate privacy and sunlight while adding depth to the otherwise simple volumetric structure. The architectural expression remains restrained, relying on proportion, shadow and material rhythm rather than decorative gestures.

At night, integrated lighting highlights the stone surfaces, the textured screens and the outdoor living areas, transforming the residence into a softer and more atmospheric composition. The project is conceived as a quiet contemporary home, rooted in place and designed for everyday comfort.
